Frequently Asked Questions

What is VTest?

VTest is an adaptive English assessment that measures proficiency from beginner (Pre-A1) to advanced (C2), available for General, Academic, and School contexts.

Candidates can take one skill (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) or a full four-skills test. Duration ranges from 20 to 140 minutes, depending on level and modules.

VTest is trusted by schools, universities, and organizations worldwide for admissions, hiring, placement, progress tracking, and certification.
Each test-taker gets a certificate and a detailed score report with CEFR levels, “can do” statements, and areas for improvement.

Institutions receive group reports and Excel files to analyze performance across classes or programs.

Anytime, anywhere, on a laptop, tablet, or computer with internet access. Tests can also be securely proctored online.

A computer or tablet, headphones with a microphone, and a stable internet connection. Online proctoring also requires a camera and an official ID.

As often as needed — some schools test once a year, others use multiple sessions to track progress.

No special preparation is required, but free practice materials are available to help learners get familiar with the strucuture of the test.

Scores can be verified anytime through the results portal: https://app.vtest.com/results/ as long as the institution enables the feature.

One outstanding benefit of VTest is the price. It can vary by test version but they are all accesible and affordable. Please contact your VTest representative for a personalized quote.

Results are usually available immediately. In some cases, if a human review is required, they will be ready within 24–48 business hours.

The exam will pause automatically and can be resumed once the connection is restored.

What does “Invalid Activation Code” mean?

This message appears when the code has not been entered correctly. Double-check for typing errors. Remember, activation codes are not case-sensitive.

Each account must have a unique username. If the one you chose is already in use, try a different variation.

It means the subscription linked to that code has ended. Please request a new code from your teacher or administrator.

No. Usernames must be unique for each student to ensure proper tracking of progress and results.

Yes. Students can reset or change their password directly in the platform settings.

Recording works on both the web and the BurlingtonEnglish app. If you experience issues, we recommend:

  • Switching to “desktop mode” on mobile devices
  • Checking microphone permissions in your browser or device settings
  • Ensuring a stable internet connection and minimal background noise
  • Clicking the microphone only once and waiting for it to stop automatically
Make sure to complete the entire sentence. If the problem continues, reset the activity — this won’t affect your score or progress.

This usually happens on mobile devices. Switch your browser to “desktop view” and confirm microphone access is enabled.

Although the platform offers several offline activities, an internet connection is required for real-time work. You can access BurlingtonEnglish either through the website or the mobile app.
